A $300 12 gauge shotgun with a modified choke will likely have the same pattern at 40 yards as a $200,000 Holland & Holland Royal ejector double in 12 gauge with a modified choke. The difference between the weapons is pointability; you don’t aim a shotgun, you point it. If the shotgun does not point well it will never hit well. This makes all the difference in the world when you are attempting to hit a moving target. I remember shooting trap with a $100 H&R break open single shot 12 gauge with a modified choke and a Browning break open single shot BT-99 $1,500 trap gun with a modified choke. I broke 4 out of 25 with the H&R and 22 out of 25 with the Browning BT-99. That is an example of pointability. Actually shotguns with the best pointing qualities are over/under shotguns. There are people who would argue that but look at the Olympics. 100% of Olympic trap and skeet shooters shoot over/under shotguns. Most of the guns in the Olympics are Perazzi shotguns because they point well. Olympic shooters could shoot weapons other than over/under shotguns but they all stick with that type of weapon. The difference between a $300 shotgun and a $3,000 shotgun is pointability and durability.
